Although the technology of DVD video is rapidly improving and ever-evolving, it shouldn't discourage you from preserving your media now.

Videotape does not last forever.

The simple act of watching, rewinding or fast-forwarding tapes can cause a breakdown of the magnetic particles on the surface of your videotape. Certain adverse conditions (such as storage conditions) can accelerate this process.

The simplest way to prevent losing your video entirely is to have an archival backup made of any video program you deem irreplaceable. We recommend DVD for this purpose.

Important tip:
Not all archiving companies are created equal! Make sure yours is providing you with a high quality, supervised and monitored transfer on premium media (treated to withstand smudging, water, and scratching.)
